It’s not quite as comprehensive as its competitors but it’s a good package for those seeking to get a more from their antivirus software. It also does a great job with resources, avoiding heavy system loads while offering several alternatives to help reduce the burden when needed.
The program starts with modular hubs that have tiles that show the layout of its modules. These include antivirus, firewalls, PC tune-up, game boosters and home network scanners. Those looking to monitor their system for vulnerabilities will be delighted with the “Vulnerabilities” section that will alert them of things like missing Windows updates autostart services, as well as open ports. Gamers will find the “Game Booster” feature helpful, since it can detect when you’re playing and automatically optimize your system.
In our tests, we found that bullguard was quite effective in stopping malware infections, and was fairly lightweight in terms of system resources when compared to other products in terms of CPU use. We did notice that the background antivirus processes consumed a significant amount of RAM, especially on machines with limited memory. In high-resolution screens the hub app looked as if it was pixelated.
Bullguard’s Premium Protection subscription comes with the mobile component, which provides security against theft, parental controls and basic backup capabilities to your smartphone or tablet. The app is basic and doesn’t have a lot of essential features, such as webcam security or shredders for files. Also, support via phone is only offered via live chat or email.
